Meet the origin
Kontiki Expeditions takes its name after Kontiki Viracocha, the God of all Creation in the Pre- Inca and Inca mythology. Viracocha literally means Sea Foam and he is represented by an old man with the sun as his crown, two lightning in his hands and tears in his eyes representing the rain.
Kontiki Viracocha brought light into the world and created the universe. He is intimately connected with the ocean and legends tell how he started his journey in Titicaca, and went north until he arrived to the equator. In Manta, Kon-Tiki Viracocha disappeared walking westward across the Pacific’s water promising to return one day and was never seen again.
We at Kontiki Expeditions found purpose and inspiration through the values in Viracocha’s legacy. Each expedition incorporates exploration, discovery, adventure, cultural immersion, ancient tradition and above all a deep connection with our natural surroundings and local people who are the soul of any destination. We have our hearts set in being an instrument to connect worlds through authentic experiences and life reinvention.
